The Green Wave

 The Green Wave
Gordon launches his brand new venture, The Green Wave!

The Green Wave is the first online surf store dedicated to eco-friendly surf gear. Based in the UK but serving all surfing countries in Europe, The Green Wave sets out to change the face of the industry by providing surfers with better and more sustainable equipment.

Here's what Gordon had to say:

"Everyday, surfers rely on the environment to provide them with clean water and waves. This is what keeps us surfers stoked, and most believe in environmental causes but we don’t always follow this through with the products we buy.

Despite the existence of some ethical surf brands, I recognised there was a distinct lack of availability when it came to eco-friendly alternatives.

Now however, thanks to The Green Wave, everyone can support both small and large independent brands who are working hard to protect and sustain the planet that provides us with so much.

As well as being able to offer an option for environmentally-conscious riders who want great product performance, The Green Wave aims to influence everyday surfers through inspiring content, insightful articles and in-depth product information."

Go visit www.thegreenwave.co.uk to find out more! There's a 15% OFF special launch discount valid until Monday night, so hurry!

English Nationals at Watergate Bay

Super stoked to have taken part in the English Nationals last weekend at Watergate bay... Got a couple of strong heats in the first couple of rounds but ended up falling in the semis. I was great to see some of the boys rip and congrats to Jayce Robinson for shredding his way to a win... Yew!

Coastal Cruise

The lineups are packed with miscellaneous surf-craft, and the waves are rarely solid, but by January summer is sorely missed by surfers in the Northern latitudes. This clip follows Gordon Fontaine as he cruises through France and Spain, evoking sweet memories for any surfer who’s taken a European road trip during the sun-soaked season.

Saltburn Pier

We scored amazing little waves in Saltburn for the UK Pro Surf Tour contest. I came 3rd in the final and am now closer to number 1 on the UKPSA Rankings. Check out the highlights here: https://vimeo.com/77561365

Just like in Bournemouth or Boscombe, Saltburn has a pier, and god knows how much I love shooting the pier... Here's a clip of me surfing through it twice on the same wave. Shot on Tomas Hein's GoPro 3 Black Edition. Follow him on his photographic project about British Surfing named: 'Road to nowhere'

Today at Thurso East

It's hard to describe today. Thurso East was magical for the UKPST comp but unfortunately with a 20 sec period it was slow.

I entered my heat hopeful, and amped to get tubed. But it didn't really go to plan. I caught one of the bombs of the day but took off a meter too deep and unfortunately couldn't get around the first section. The wave was big and my leash snapped. After losing 12 minutes retrieving my board and another leash I still had time to get back into the heat, but the ocean went flat.

I felt empty. Frustrated and disgusted. Finishing 4th in this round meant my dreams of becoming Uk champ became near impossible. And not only that I also had to endure watching my friends score 10pt rides and getting some of the best barrels of their lives while I was stuck on the shore, powerless. I have never felt so dead inside. I had been waiting for this kind of opportunity for years, if not all my life.

The final was probably the most impressive heat I've seen. It was CT level. Two 10s and two 9s went down in the most perfect waves in the world. So hats off to the boys and congrats Luis Eyre for the win.

Determined to turn this dark day around I decided to paddle out after the contest. The waves were firing and the locals were on it. Luckily I managed to sneak into 5 bombs and caught the best barrels I've had since my trip to the Mentawaiis in 2010. I felt ecstatic, and that was exactly what I needed.

So there it is... From the darkest to the greatest state of being. From depressed to euphoric. From sorrow to bliss.

This is the reason why I'm passionate about this sport, and this is the reason why I live.

Thank you Thurso for giving me a second chance. I hope to be back soon...

Ian 3rd at Sopelana Pro Junior!!

After a solid performance finishing 7th at the Sooruz Royan Pro Junior Ian strikes again, and strikes harder! He posted solid totals throughout the whole event winning his quarter final and semi final match ups. Despite a great start to the final with a 6.17pts Ian came up short against Leo Fioraventi who scored a 10pt ride and Diego Mignot who scored a total of 18.50pts to take the win...

Now sitting 4th on the rankings, GO IAN!

Ian 7th at the Sooruz Pro Junior in Royan. Great start to the season.

Ian put on an epic show at the Sooruz Pro Junior in Royan last weekend. Despite some great surfing he fell just short in the semis on Sunday. Scoring a solid total 12,80 / 20 he would have actually made it through the other semi!

Awesome result nonetheless and now sitting 7th on the Pro Junior ranking, so epic stuff all round....

UK Night Surf 2013

The UK Night Surf was a blast! Ian came up from Brittany and joined me for this 2013 edition, where he entered both the Open and the Pro Junior division.

The difficult conditions and the number of heats surfed made this comp a marathon event for Ian. Taking the bull by the horns he ripped every single heat apart scoring 9s and 8s the whole weekend. He came up just short in the Open semis and finished 5th but took out first place in the Pro Junior category with style...

Luckily I had a few less heats to deal with and managed to get myself up to the Open final. I finished 4th in the end which is a great result for the season ahead.

Looking forward to more of these in the coming months...
